The value of a print publication, or
web site can be judged by the quality of their information.
The Community Guide in print and on-line holds an important
role in the community, bringing valuable
information to its readers that would otherwise be difficult
to access. One of the things that binds a community is
shared information and that is exactly what the Guide speaks
to. As an informational resource, the Guide is unsurpassed.
It is and will continue to be a privilege to be an advertiser.

Dear Community Guide Readers,
I am so happy for the opportunity to applaud Gail's efforts.
My hypnosis workshops have consistently appeared in The Community Guide e-newsletters
intact; My name spelled correctly, my phone number, email and web addresses
all there! If you have had any experience with events calendars, you can
appreciate this phenomenon.
I am always running into people who tell me they saw my listings in this
e-letter. People actually remember that they saw the events listed here!
- Gail, you are doing a great job.
Sincerely,
Frayda Kafka cht

HISTORY
First Connections, Inc., also initially
known as The Welcome Connection, was
originally established in 1999 as the area's premier
welcoming service for new residents of northern
Ulster County.
At that time, our resource guide was published
to assist new residents with information about
the area. Approximately 700 guides were
produced annually and distributed primarily through
closings at real estate offices, apartment complexes
and mortgage companies.
Many newcomers (especially parents) called to
inquire about other services and resources available.
It soon became apparent that a comprehensive resource
of schools, lessons & instructions, birthday
parties, community information, etc. would be
very helpful to the community at large.
The
publication has evolved over the years, to reflect
the needs of the community. In 2003, the
first print edition of the Community &
Family Guide was published and thousands
of guides were distributed throughout all
of Ulster County. In 2004, the resource
simply became known as... The Community Guide, and
in 2006 the website name - TheCommunityGuide.net
- became the primary title for the print
guide, and is now used in all current marketing
efforts.

PUBLISHER and
FOUNDER
GAIL KANDEL
As a
young adult living and working within the hustle and bustle
of NYC, Gail Kandel enjoyed coming up to the Catskill region
to relax, experience the beauty of the area, and breathe! She
and her husband had the opportunity to move to Ulster County
in 1982. Gail later founded The Welcome Connection which
helped to welcome other new residents to the community. After
many inquiries about the community, she founded and became
President of First Connections, Inc. which now publishes TheCommunityGuide.net,
a unique resource for all community members to enjoy. Gail
and hubby now live in West Hurley, and are the proud parents
